Design Co-op COLONY Is Changing The Way We Shop For Interiors

Located above the hustle and bustle of one of the city’s busiest streets in Tribeca, lies an innovative retail experience for interior lovers. Colony began as the brainchild of Jean Lin, with its primary goal being to support and foster the growth of independent designers. One part design showroom the other – a multi-dimensional consulting agency – the space works to provide creative direction and design services for design studios, architecture firms, real estate developers, and global manufacturers. Unlike a traditional gallery that often collects up to 60% of a sale, Colony champions cooperation, charging their designers a monthly co-op fee and taking a much smaller percentage as a commission to support the growth of each designer.

“At Colony, we strive to represent and amplify the creative voices of independent American designers. We work with artists whose work and process are beautiful, innovative, and unique and use our platform to bolster their talent. Inclusivity and accessibility within design are both very important to us. Recently, we launched The Designers’ Residency, an incubator program where we mentor the next wave of young designers and help them bring to life their own studio practice and join the permanent roster here at Colony” says Lin.

Featuring an ever-evolving display of decorative treasures, the space offers a mix of furniture, lighting, textiles, and object from stunning brands such as Allied Maker, Bec Brittain, Studio Paolo Ferrari, Grain, and Hiroko Takeda. Each visit to Colony provides an expertly curated visual feast that feels distinctly different each time you step into the space.
